The New Iceland Heritage Museum Foundation Fund

The New Iceland Heritage Museum has partnered with The Westshore Community foundation and The Winnipeg Foundation to established this permanently endowed Manitoba Heritage Trust Fund to support their work.

Until March 31, 2021, the Province of Manitoba will stretch gifts to this fund. Every $2 given during this period has the potential to be stretched by an additional $1, to a maximum of $170,000, this means a gift of $2 becomes $3.

The New Iceland Heritage Museum is a gateway to understanding the unique history of New Iceland in Canada. Their high quality permanent and travelling exhibits, programs and events tell the story of New Iceland, the challenges and the achievements of its people, and their relationship with the land and the lake.

The Winnipeg Foundation will generate the tax receipts for all gift directed to this fund under the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program. Gifts to this fund are invested in perpetuity and the annual income generated for grantmaking is distributed to The New Iceland Heritage Museum to be used at their discretion.

Planned Giving & Bequests

One of the most thoughtful ways to ensure the New Iceland Heritage Museum continues to reach out to preserve and present the culture and heritage of New Iceland, Lake Winnipeg and the fishing industry.

This selfless gesture will ensure that future generations will know and value the rich legacy of the unique settlement story of New Iceland and the role and importance of our great lake and the bounty it provides in so many ways.

Planned giving offers several advantages:

  • Maximize your tax credits when you make a gift
  • Offset tax owing on a capital gain when you give appreciated property
  • Eliminate capital gains tax on gifts of appreciated, publicly-listed securities
  • Reduce taxes payable at  your death
  • Create your legacy of support for today and forever
